Privacy policy

The short version

You can try Hitherway without an account. If you sign in, we store your email identity, entitlement, and saved map documents so you can use them across devices. Public embeds receive only the published map snapshot. Drafts and account details are not exposed through an embed.

What we store

• Anonymous map state — before you save, selections and styles are encoded in the URL you choose to share.
• Address lookup — when you choose “Map this address,” the address passes through our geocoding endpoint to the U.S. Census Geocoder. We use the response to draw the map and do not intentionally retain the lookup.
• Account and entitlement — passwordless authentication stores your email and account identifier. Stripe payment results or a one-time legacy-key claim determine Pro access on the server.
• Saved maps — Pro map names, draft documents, published snapshots, revisions, and timestamps are stored in our database. Public embed identifiers are random and non-guessable.
• Logos — Hitherway creates and stores a separate compact web-safe copy. Your original upload is not modified or retained as the saved-map asset.
• Contact emails — if you email us, we have your email address and message, used only to respond.

Advertising (Google AdSense)

This site displays ads served by Google AdSense. Google and its partners use cookies and similar technologies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this and other websites.

• Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits.
• Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.
• You may opt out of personalized advertising by visiting Google Ads Settings.
• You can also visit aboutads.info/choices to opt out of many third-party vendors' cookies.

Payments

Pro purchases are processed by Stripe. We never see or store your card details. Stripe's handling of your payment information is governed by the Stripe privacy policy.

Data sharing

We do not sell or rent personal information. Data is shared only as technically required to provide authentication and database services (Neon), store uploaded logos (Vercel Blob), look up an address (U.S. Census Bureau), serve ads (Google), and process payments (Stripe).

Changes

If this policy changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new “last updated” date.
